What is Green Tourism?

At PeakePedals we believe passionately in Green Tourism so we thought it might be helpful to explain what we mean by it and why we think it is important
"Green tourism is all about enjoying the places we visit but with the focus on taking care of them for the future and reducing the negative impact of tourism on the local communities"
We believe our tours achieve this by
Using e-bikes rather than cars to reduce our carbon footprint
Getting people out on bikes to reduce congestion
Visiting a wider variety of places to share tourism income to more locations in the Peak District
Supporting the local economy by encourages people to spend money with locally owned businesses
Green Tourism is really important in the Peak District because it does not have good public transport so most people tend to explore by car and it is a relatively small geographic area so gets easily congested during peak season. These factors coupled with its proximaty to major cities means it also has a lot more day visitors who also ten to use their cars.
This is why we are so focussed on Green Tourism and Active Transport
Last year we were delighted to be recognised for our Green Tourism initiative by the award of the Peak District Environmental Quality Award
So if you want to enjoy the Peak District and care about the environment one of our Tours is the perfect way to explore the area
