Service Description

This tour mainly follows minor roads on tarmac surfaces and visits a number of outlying villages often bypassed by those with motor vehicles. The tour starts at Winster and provides a loop of the pretty market village before heading past the church and off towards Elton (its smaller and less known neighbour). Both offer a rich history of lead mining. The Tour then passes south towards Minninglow Hill via farm tracks before reaching minor roads south to Parwich. At Parwich Hill the road descends into the beautiful village of Parwich, ancient crown land once owned by the King. The route passes the Sycamore Inn and village shop combined and then out past the village green towards Bradbourne. The trail climbs into this "doubly thankful" village. One of only 14 villages in England that suffered no loss of life in both WW1 and 2. Minor roads soon offer glimpses of the larger village of Brassington and its Norman church. The historic Olde Gate pub is most definitely worthy of consideration when passing. The road then climbs passing under the High Peak Trail before exiting for Aldwark (a gem of a village particularly if the brewery cellar door is open). It is then back to Winster via a slightly shorter route to reach the Miners Standard.
