According to a 2025 Mintel Report UK Sustainability in Travel Market 71% of UK holidaymakers are now interested in seeing information about the sustainability of a holiday or holiday activity before they make a booking.
This information coupled with the fact that the Peak District National Park have identified that around 20% of people that visit them will spend their time driving around and sightseeing by car makes the idea of e-bike touring an obvious choice for the green conscious traveller
Recent gridlock in the Peak District after certain areas featured on TikTok videos led to frustration from locals and tourists alike as they spent hours just sitting in their cars rather than exploring the park also helps to put the case for using eBikes to tour the Peak District instead of cars
There are other key advantage of using e-bikes for touring that also relate to the quality of experience as well as the green credentials. With eBike touring you are moving slower than a car which helps you see more of the area and makes it much easier to stop when you see something interesting - this also helps reducing the need for more land to be turned into car parks and helps reduce congestion.
Accessibility is yet another key factor to consider with many routes in the Peak District not possible in cars; it means you will get to see different things and experience more variety. It is a bit like hiking but you get to see a bigger area in the same time frame and do not need to be as physically fit to enjoy the experience
eBikes are powered by small electric motors that “assist” rather than replace pedaling a bike but they do make eBiking much much easier than conventional cycling and with new eTrikes now available you do not even need to be able to ride a bike to enjoy greener touring. To charge an eBike battery takes just 2 kw (about £0.60 of electricity) so its green credentials do stand up to scrutiny. You can get more details on sustainability on the PeakePedals website. The sustainability case has also been independently verified by our recent award of the
Although eBikes are a much greener way to see our National Park than touting by car it is still very important to consider the countryside code especially by making sure tourers do not ride on footpaths and give walkers priority on shared paths. This is why PeakePedals spend a lot of time creating different routes that avoid crowded areas and take advantage of the best cycling conditions near the key places of interest in the Peak District
